Hello Today, Friendship Forever

At the age of 8, me and brother found a little family of stray dogs in the construction site whereby my parent were out to look into purchasing a property in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  While both of my parent were busy looking into the details of the property, location and so forth.

My brother and me were busy playing with the little puppies.  They were all so adorable.  One half beige and white, one were totally in black, and the fattest of all the three puppies were having golden brown and black fur.  We can't help but felt sorry and carry them as we stroke their heads.  While stroking. we also checked on their fur whether they had any ticks.  My mom instructed us  how to look for it.  None.   They didn't bit nor run away from us.  We were new to playing with puppies along the street.  They had round flapped     ears, round nose, big round eyes, medium length of fur, a long wagging tail.  They all looked so happy with us.

All of a suddened a big black dog came near to us.  It didn't bark at us as we were touching, cuddling her young born puppies.  We gave our bread to the dogs.  We can see that they were so hungry.

As my mom called for us to return for home, we then pestered our parent to keep at least one dog.  At last our parent agreed.  My brother and I after much discussion, decided to pick the fattest one.  We named him 'Barney'.

At that age, we didn't know whether the puppy we choose were male or female.  Nor did we know how old are the puppies.

We brought the puppy 'Barney' back home.  Happy as a bumble bee.

We gave our puppy a good bath with soap and towel dry him.  Barney, Barney as we yelled.  Come here.  Time for milk.  We managed to get a metal bowl and poured milk into it.  He lick all the milk in a hurry.  seeing his reaction, we were not sure whether he was hungry still after a bowl of milk.  We made another bowl for him.  This time, he lick again and leave the leftover in the bowl.

My parent and I took our puppy to the vet and got him checked, vaccinated and applied for a dog license from the government.

We bought a dog tag and put his dog licence on the dog neck collar.  He is so adorable.  We wanted to sleep with our dog.  However our parent discourage it. We placed a blanket on the cane chair just outside our car porch.  He uses it like he was being cuddle.  As our cane chair was half moon shape and able to provide a cosy sleeping place for him.

We also found out the puppy we took home - Barney is not a male but a female.
Oophs!  We gave a wrong name to her.  We changed her name's spelling into 'Bernie'.

She grew as my brother and me took turns to bath her and brush her fur on daily basis after school.  She is so good.  We feed her an egg on a daily basis and we gave her milk besides her other main solid food.  She doesn't like pellet food or canned food.  She eat what we eat.  Her portion were much bigger than ours.  My mom became her Chef.

After a few years of biting and destroying our shoes, despite the toys we gave her.  She stopped after we gave her dog bones.

We noticed she had black mark like birth marks on her tongue.  Interesting.
Whenever we are seated down to watch television, she will come near us and lay beside us.  Her fur were like carpet.  So smooth and silky.

At one point of time, a few stray dogs came to our gate.  She made friend with them at the gate.  After a few weeks, she caught dog ticks.  We had to bring her to the vet to clear her off.  Of else she will keep barking, scratching herself.  Must be very uncomfortable for her.

One day, I brought her out for a jog with me along the road.  A huge dog came and start barking at me.  I was so afraid of the huge dog.  Bernie came to my rescue.  She barked back.  They had a fight.  Oh no!  Her paw were biting by the huge dog.  A neighborhood man grasp a stone and threw at the huge dog.  The huge dog ran away this time.  It as an ugly scene.  She was limping on the way home.

We reached home.  I bathed her and towel dry her.  Gave her medical aid and bandage her paw.  Informed my parent.  Two weeks later, the bleed was infected with maggots.   Realizing the medication we use will not help a dog.

We took her to the vet.  The doctor, remove her maggots.  She had to be quarantine for three weeks.  The doctor was worried whether she will be infected by the huge stray dog during the fight.  He gave her an injection.

We were all sad for three weeks.  We felt so lonely without her.  After the quarantine period, we were allowed to bring her home.  Hurray!  Time to come home Bernie.

Her wound healed with the helped of the doctor.  She didn't loose her paw and back in good shape.

Ever since then, we do not bring her out without a big stick and lanyard tied to her collar each time we bring her out for a walk or jog.

I was lucky have her.  She is an obedient dog who lived for 12 years with us.  She is a Labrador mixed with normal stray dog breed.

Bernie a good dog.  Hello Today, Friendship Forever.
